When Leaders Stop Campaigning and Start Stewarding

Imagine if people in positions of authority remembered that leadership was never meant to be a family heirloom, a permanent throne, or a never-ending election season.

Imagine if they realized they were entrusted with something bigger: to steward what God already placed in this nation.

If that ever happens, things will change.

And before anyone says this is impossible, many Asian countries that have already overtaken us did not become successful by perfecting political drama. They built systems, developed industries, empowered businesses, and turned national resources into national prosperity.

Meanwhile, we often act surprised that endless political maneuvering produces endless political maneuvering.

What if leadership looked different?

It might look like this:

1. MSMEs become economic engines, not survival projects.

Small businesses grow into companies that create high-paying jobs so parents no longer need to leave their children just to earn money abroad.

2. Filipino businesses go global.

Instead of exporting talent and importing finished goods, we bring Filipino products, brands, and innovation to the world.

3. Tourism has become a serious industry, not just a slogan.

Hotels, restaurants, wellness services, and local experiences are all creating dignified and competitive livelihoods.

4. Filipino craftsmanship rises again.

Our creativity, skill, and excellence become internationally recognized instead of underpriced.

5. Local resources become local industries.

Instead of shipping raw materials out and buying expensive finished goods back, provinces develop businesses that create value where resources already exist.

6. Every province develops products the world recognizes.

Not just destinations—but brands.

7. Agriculture becomes attractive again.

Productive, modern, profitable and something the next generation wants to build on.

Because vision, when it reaches regions, provinces, cities, municipalities, and barangays, creates direction. Direction creates action. Action creates transformation.

The Philippines is richly blessed by God.

The question is not whether God gave enough.

The question is whether those entrusted to lead will stop treating leadership like a contest and start treating it like stewardship.

Because brains trained only for political wrangling become experts at wrangling.

Brains trained to build and create economies.

But while we wait, we in the MSME community will keep doing our assignment. We will build.

We will employ.

We will serve.

We will pray.

Because we believe our Master still has the final authority. And that is both a sobering thought for those who waste what was entrusted to them and a hopeful one for those faithfully doing the work.

Don’t wait for permission to build where God planted you. Strengthen your business. Create jobs. Develop your locality. Steward what is in your hands because transformation rarely starts in palaces. It usually starts in good parenting, families, workshops, farms, kitchens, and small businesses.

Because a nation called by God to bear his name carries a big responsibility to glorify that Name. It means if we just put our acts together, He who started a good work in bringing His Name to our land will bring it to completion.

So, let us have faith. He is in control. Soon we will see the light of dawn.
